Vitus 979 Excellent Original Vintage 70s 23"/58cm Aluminum Track Bike

Vitus 979 (French) Excellent Original Unrestored Vintage 1970s 23"(58cm) Aluminum Track Bike + Race Kit. Untouched and unridden for approx. 40 years. Found hanging in an upscale Los Angeles mid-century modern design shop, as a beautiful and unique work of art and industrial design. From my understanding, this is one of the very first professionally designed and constructed aluminum frame bicycles, and was a revolutionary development for international velodrome/track bicycle racing. I have ridden and loved interesting bicycles for over 55 years, and this is without even the slightest close comparison, the most perfectly designed and presented bicycle I have not only ever owned, but quite honestly, even ever seen. The 40+ year old sewup tires you see in some of the pictures were rotten, so the only change from the time of the bike's originality to my knowledge is the addition of the new old stock yellow wall sewups which have only ridden rollers for less than 30 minutes. One of the most amazing bonuses included is the (complete to best of my knowledge) original period track race spares travel toolkit, with 4 different additional chainrings, 5 additional rear fixed gears, cluster wrench, wheel nut wrench, extra original matching chainlinks and chainbreaker for gearing changes, etc. All equipment is original to the period of the bike's race history: Cinelli bars and stem, Suntour Superbe Pro custom made race hubs and crank, Condor San Marco SuperCorsa vintage saddle, etc etc. With the (beautifully anodized blue) aluminum frame, the bike is crazy light, you can carry it all around with just your pinky finger. Whether you choose to hang it in your living room as an extraordinary work of beauty, as i have for the few years I've been lucky to own it, or tackle the big intimidating (to an ex road racer like me) velodrome, you will be hard pressed to find a more impressive icon of vintage cycling history. Free local pick up or delivery in greater Los Angeles area, and possibly delivery to Santa Cruz/San Jose/San Francisco area with some delay. Otherwise I will package sturdily in 4x thick corrugated board, disassembled to the degree necessary to ensure safe transit. I can also offer free delivery to the Santa Cruz/San Jose/San Francisco Bay area, though it might take several weeks depending on when the purchase is made.
